Look Up Look Out

Privacy

Draft for review — the campaign organisers should have this text checked by a qualified adviser before public launch.

Who we are

This website supports the Look Up Look Out campaign — awareness, reporting, and practical help on poles and overhead electricity. Technical hosting and processing may be carried out on behalf of the campaign by trusted service providers (for example secure hosting and email delivery).

What you submit

When you use the report form, we may collect:

  • The details you type (for example what happened and when).
  • Photos you choose to upload (for example equipment or site context).
  • Your email address if you provide it (for example to send a confirmation message).
  • Basic technical data needed to run the site safely (for example rough network information for abuse prevention).
  • Optional location you choose to provide (UK postcode and/or a map pin from your device) when you agree to the separate map consents on the report form.

Internal map vs public map

If you opt in, we may store a precise location for campaign staff only (internal map and case review). That is separate from the optional public approximate map, which only ever shows a deliberately coarse point — never your exact pin, postcode text, or address on the public site.

Shrouding intake can include a similar optional consent: if you agree, we may derive and show only a coarse point for awareness, not your exact GPS on the public map.

Why we use it

Reports are used to build an evidence base for awareness, training, and engagement with industry bodies and regulators — always in line with the consent you give on the form. This is not the same as official reporting to an employer, network operator, or the HSE, which may have separate legal requirements.

Retention

Information should be kept only as long as needed for the campaign and any legal obligations. Exact retention periods should be set by the campaign and documented here after legal review.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact the campaign using the details they publish when available.
