A message from John Knight
Look Up Look Out
My name is John Knight. I'm a retired window cleaner, and I'm writing to you as someone who's been exactly where you are — out on the job, poles up, just getting on with the day. I'm also writing to you as a father. My son Jason suffered a devastating electrocution while using a water-fed pole system. The injuries he sustained were catastrophic and life-changing. As a family, we live with that reality every single day. What makes this even harder is knowing he's not alone. Since 2022 there have been multiple serious incidents involving poles and overhead electricity in the UK. These aren't rare accidents. They're real, they're repeatable, and they can happen in a split second — even without direct contact, because electricity can arc. That's why we started Look Up Look Out. This isn't about telling anyone how to do their job. It's not about selling anything. It's simply about keeping people alive.
Report an incident or near missPractical help — protective covering (shrouding)
If a job feels unsafe because of overhead lines, you can call 105 in the UK — free, no harm in asking — and your local network operator can advise and, in some cases, arrange temporary shrouding. This tool helps you draft that request clearly, with your photo and location. For immediate danger, follow the emergency guidance on the safety page first.

Supporters
We're asking trade bodies, suppliers, and employers to help spread the word — display the logo, share the message, use stickers on poles. It's not about endorsements or brands; it's about standing together and saying enough is enough. Logos below are managed in the Supporters collection in the charity editor.
